7 Must See Places in Las Palmas, Gran Canarias

Las Palmas de Gran Canarias is the city and capital of Gran Canaria Island. This magnificent island is one of eight Canary Islands which form the Spanish archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Morocco.

I have visited this island twice by plane. The total trip time for a non-stop one way flight from Madrid airport is a quick 3 hours duration and ranging approximately $199 roundtrip on off-season (November through March).

I have gathered the following 7 must-see places that you will not want to miss If you are traveling to Las palmas anytime soon.

At 22 minutes North from the airport, is this beautiful vibrant beach. Here you can enjoy surf, local eatery delights and sunbathing!

2.El Bufadero de la Garita A.K.A. Thor's Well

Only a 10 minute drive from the airport, is this fantastic water-well like formation that continuously fills up and gets expelled through a volcanic hollowness.

3. Maspalomas’ Dunes Natural Reserve

At 20 minutes South from the airport, is the resort town of Maspalomas. One of the most visited places on the island where 400 hectare of sand dunes awaits! You can access the dunes for free and the easiest way to get there is by visiting the Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas and walking out to the dunes.

One of the most scenic and one of my favorite places on the island, is the beautiful Playa de la Aldea located in the South of the island and approximately an hour away from the city center. Perfect for a quick bite and watching the sunset.
